Police On "Red Alert" In Sokoto State

Sokoto State -- Sokoto State Police Command said on Monday, October 1, that tight security measures have been put in place on the occasion of 53rd Independence Anniversary celebrations.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Shua'ibu Gambo, assured the journalists that "officers and men of the Nigeria Police are on red alert all over Nigeria".

"The command has taken all the necessary steps to fortify the state and people can go about their normal activities without fear," he added.
Mr. Gambo said all has been done to enhance effective security network which would guarantee peace across the state.

Security personnel had been deployed in various shopping malls, other public buildings to guard the residents.

"We are not taking the security situation lightly," he said, "as various forms of security strategies are in place during and after the independence celebrations".
Mr. Gambo further stated that any individual who would disturb peace would be arrested, and suggested that criminals leave the area.

He urged the citizens to support the efforts of the command by reporting criminal offences.
He also called on the officers and men of the police command to show commitment to their duty, promising that hard work would be rewarded.
