The Ogun State police command yesterday said it has arrested 10 persons suspected to be burglars and cultists operating in Igbesa axis of Agbara industrial town in Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government Area of the state.
A statement issued and signed yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said the suspects were picked up at odd hours of 1: 00a.m on Monday where they were having a celebration.
According to him, a team of the anti-crime unit of the police, led by the Agbara Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Ayo Sonubi, arrested six of the suspects who were members of a dreaded cult group in Igbesa, while the remaining four were caught within the premises of a polythene company while stealing raw materials meant for the company’s use.
He gave names of the six suspected cultists to include; 28 year old Ojo Razak, 22 years old Abioye Ismail, Oladapo Akin Akala (21), Oluwaseun Adegboyega (24), Orepodun John (20), while name of the sixth suspect could not be ascertained as at press time.
The release further stated that the police anti crime teams had placed the suspected cultists under surveillance following an intelligence report from the command’s Intelligence Bureau in the area on their deadly plans to unleash terror on the people of the community. The PPRO put the price worth of the raw materials stolen from the premise of the company at N3.5million.
He also gave names of the four suspected burglars as; 26 year old Oluyemi Ayodeji, Omololu Odedina (22), Opeyemi Bolarinwa (24) as well as 38 year old Kabiru Iyanda.
He said the suspects had gained entrance into the company with the assistance of some personnel of the company who had already arranged labourers to load the stolen goods into a waiting truck with registration number (LAGOS) XY 862 FKJ at the very odd hour.
Adejobi, however, added that the labourers, who were arranged to load the vehicle, fled the scene before the arrival of the police team.
The police spokesperson further stressed that all the suspects arrested would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the command in Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
