Two Soldiers Nabbed For Kidnapping In Abia

The Abia State Police Command has begun investigating two soldiers and two civilians for alleged kidnapping. The soldiers, whose camouflage uniforms were removed, were yesterday brought to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Umuahia, Mr. Geoffery Ogbonna, for interrogation.
Shortly after the police began interrogating the suspects, they directed journalists to stop covering it, but one of the suspected soldierkidnappers gave his name as Solomon and claimed that his duty post was at the Abia Express Tower in Umuahia.
His colleague, Clement, said that he had left the army on health ground. When asked further, he told the police that he was a stroke patient, but there was no visible sign of deformity confirming his claim.
Their two civilian accomplices included a woman, whose name is Favour Solomon, and a young man said to be a commercial driver, but his name could not be ascertained at press time.
Since after some battleready army personnel under the squad called “Operation Jubilee” headed by Maj-Gen. Sylvester Andrew Audu tackled kidnapping and armed robbery between 2010 and January 2012 in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia, it is sad to note that the menace has begun retuning to the state gradually.
Residents have, however, alleged that some unscrupulous soldiers have joined the criminals to make brisk money. Worst still, there are pockets of reports accusing some soldiers of involvement in the illicit trade of oil bunkering.

At Ukwa West and East local government areas of the state, some soldiers have been allegedly arrested for their questionable roles in aiding and abetting oil thieves.
