Violence Outbreak In Benue, Dozens Feared Dead

Benue state,  Agatu Local Government Area -- Over 30 people are feared killed in a recent violence outbreak between native farmers of Agatu local government area of Benue State and alleged Fulani herdsmen.

The clash erupted on Saturday, and lasted throughout the weekend. It has been gathered that some victims were burnt beyond recognition point. Over 30 houses and huts were also destroyed by fire.

An eyewitness says the Fulanis attacked Ojantele, Okpagabi and Ibadan (Agatu local government area of Benue State) on Saturday, killing about ten people. Then, they ambushed three people from Agatu and slaughtered them.

Even more blood was spilt on Sunday, as the assault triggered retaliation at Fulani settlement in a boarder village between Apa and Agatu.

Villagers who live at the borders of Apa and Agatu councils fled for neigbouring towns and villages,
Local authorities confirmed that no less than 20 Fulani herdsmen were killed in the fighting.
