Report: Wayne Rooney 'hopeful' of playing in Sunday's Manchester derby

The record scorer in Manchester derbies could be sidelined when the latest installment of the fixture takes place on Sunday.
Despite having completed his three-match suspension for kicking out at West Ham's Stewart Downing last month, Wayne Rooney, who has notched 11 goals in previous meetings between Manchester United and Manchester City, is reportedly fighting to be fit for the derby due to a foot injury.
Rooney suffered the injury during United's training session on Monday and was subsequently seen limping at a sponsors' promotional event at Old Trafford, according to the Guardian,
United have remained quiet on any potential injury to their captain, but if Rooney is able to recover in time for Sunday's clash, it's assumed that Louis van Gaal will insert him into the club's starting XI immediately because of "special privileges" that the manager has spoken about in the past.
Rooney was the only United player to score in last season's Manchester derbies as the club fell 4-1 and 3-0 to City in the two fixtures.
