Burning the White House Down: Channing Tatum battles to save Jamie Foxx's President in explosive new trailer

The first trailer warned us all that America will be destroyed, showing grainy home-video style footage of the White House under siege.
And now a new teaser for action-thriller White House Down reveals the full extent of the CGI created carnage that director Roland Emmerich will be unleashing on cinemagoers this summer.
The film sees the unlikely pairing of a policeman played by Channing Tatum, and Jamie Foxx as the U.S. President who team up to fight against a group of domestic terrorists that have taken over the White House from inside.
But the film has come hot off the heels of a similar-themed action movie Olympus Has Fallen, starring Gerard Butler, which is also about a takeover of the White House.
Channing, who is sporting white vest in the trailer, has admitted that he's inspired by Bruce Willis and his Die Hard character John McClane, as well as other '80s action heroes.
He said: 'I was an 80s, 90s baby so you went to the movie theater every weekend and there was was one on, whether it was Stallone, Van Damme, Seagal or Schwarzenegger himself.'
The Magic Mike actor is also preparing for the role of fatherhood and is expecting his first child with wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum later this year.
Meanwhile, it's going to be a busy summer for Jamie Foxx, 45, who has just been filming The Amazing Spider-Man 2, playing the villain Electro, and is also rumoured to be being considered for the role of Daddy Warbucks in a re-make of the musical Annie.
The cast of White House Down, which also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, 35, were gathered at last month's 5th Annual Summer of Sony party and seen dancing the night away.

JAMB Releases 2013 UTME Results: Only Ten Candidates Score 300 Marks And Above

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
The board, however, withheld 12,110 results for possible disciplinary action.
The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, announced this at a news conference on the release of the results in Bwari, FCT, on Friday.
The registrar said after thorough processing of answer scripts of the candidates who sat for the examination, the board discovered some forms of malpractice perpetuated during the conduct of the examination.
“However, the results of 68,309 candidates from various centres are undergoing further screening to ascertain the culpability of 12,110 candidates’ results.”
A total of 1,629,102 candidates applied to sit for the Paper Pencil Test (PPT), while 15,008 candidates applied for the Dual Based Test, bringing the number of candidates  to 1,644,110.
“The general performance of candidates in this year’s examination shows remarkable improvement compared with last year.
“Ten candidates scored 300 marks and above, while 127,017 candidates scored between 1-159 marks.
“About 40,692 candidates’ results were invalid due to either multiple shading or no shading at all.  After processing all the results, the board also discovered that about 47,974 candidates were absent.”
The registrar assured the candidates that their results could be accessed on the JAMB Website: www.myjambresult.com using their registration numbers.
He said about 40 centres would be screened to ascertain their culpability and warned the public against Internet fraudsters.
“Information reaching JAMB shows Internet fraudsters are already telling candidates that their results could be upgraded in one form or the other.”
This is pure deceit, the public and candidates are hereby advised to disregard these fraudsters since they do not have access to our data.
“Let me once again state that candidates are allowed to change their choices of institutions and courses once only, this change has to be effected within two weeks from today.”
Ojerinde said the Computer Based Test (CBT) is scheduled to take place from May 18 to June 1 and appealed to candidates to reprint their e-registration slips afresh to further ascertain their CBT centres. (NAN)

04/05/2013 Share BeyoncĂ©’s Alleged Tour Demands: Red Toilet Paper, No Junk Food

Beyonce is a diva and hence she demands to be treated as one. If the information leaked by a source on Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in the U.K.is true, then Beyonce is officially the queen of all divas.
“She expects her list of demands to be adhered to,” a source supposedly told a famous tabloid newspaper, explaining that BeyoncĂ© turned down the opportunity to use the O2 arena’s new dressing rooms in favor of a dressing room that usually accommodates an entire sports team; at the end of the day she ended up even using both.
Beyonce’s tour demands have been ranked from least to most diva-licious.
Here it goes:
6. “Hand-Carved Ice Balls”: For Queen B to “suck on,” this is still just frozen water. We expected better from BeyoncĂ©: Hard-carved ice balls made only of imported water that was fetched from the wells of Switzerland by small Swiss children whose only worldly possession is a pair of lederhosen.
5. “Freshly Painted White Walls and a New Toilet Seat”: This is just standard building maintenance. Would it be insane for Bey to expect the structure-bearing beams to be intact? Or for her to expect that all emergency exits be cleared?
4. “Red Toilet Paper”: We can think of reasons this might be useful.
3. “100 Percent Pure Cotton Clothing for Staff”: We presume that this measure is taken to “save [BeyoncĂ©] from allergic reactions,” which is convenient for BeyoncĂ© but inconvenient for the crew member allergic to cotton and forced into a Froot of the Loom full-body suit. But that crew member can be replaced (to the left, to the left) while there’s only one reason everyone else on the tour is even getting paid in the first place: BeyoncĂ©, crusader for cotton.
2. “Titanium Drinking Straws”: These straws apparently cost £600 (roughly $935) and are used to drink special alkaline water (which is basically just water, but better water) and served at exactly 21 degrees. If it is served at 22 degrees, prepare yourself for a face full of special alkaline water when it’s thrown back at you. But it won’t scald you or anything, it’s only 22 degrees.
1. “No Junk Food”: The rider demands that all junk food is strictly forbidden, while glass platters of almonds and oatcakes are bountiful and the salad bar “nibbles” are overflowing with greens. So maybe BeyoncĂ© wants to keep things tight.

Bangladesh collapse death toll rises to 435

The death toll from last week’s building collapse on the outskirts of Dhaka climbed to 435 with the recovery of about a dozen bodies Thursday as rescuers continued to search for the missing.Nine days into the Bangladesh’s worst industrial tragedy, rescuers still believe there might have many more bodies in the wreckage of the collapsed building though they have no hopes of finding people alive.
“A total of 429 bodies have so far been pulled out of the collapsed building,” Major General Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardi of Bangladesh Army’s Nine Infantry Division told reporters at the disaster site.
He said they are now putting their efforts to pull out manually six more bodies which were spotted Thursday as the rescuers with cranes and other heavy equipment have been removing huge concrete slabs and chunks of debris.
“We’ll never leave the accident site until recovery of the last body,” said the leader of the entire rescue operations.
Of the bodies, he said 374 have so far been handed over to their relatives.
Rescuers in collaboration with thousands of volunteers and locals under the supervision of Bangladesh Army have been working without any break since April 24 morning when the building collapsed.
According to Chowdhury, the rescuers have pulled alive 2,437 people after the eight-storey building Rana Plaza crumbled like a pack of cards on April 24.

Commercial Madness: Lagos Bus Driver Strips LASTMA Official Half Naked

A 35-year-old commercial bus driver, Abraham Ikujunni, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and stripping an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, half naked. According to LASTMA authorities, the bus driver allegedly stripped an official, Oyeyemi Olusola, ripping his pair of trousers apart. It was learnt that the incident occurred in the Ikorodu area of the Lagos State. The suspect was accosted for not wearing a seat belt before the incident occurred.
A LASTMA official who craved anonymity, said, “Around 8:26 am on Friday, the LASTMA official apprehended the suspect around Odonguyan area of Ikorodu for not using a seat belt. The official entered his vehicle and told him to park properly. He however drove the official into a street where there were commercial motorcycle riders. The riders then supported the suspect and the LASTMA official was seriously beaten and his pair of trousers was torn. Fortunately, backup arrived and the suspect was arrested.” However, the suspect denied assaulting the official, but admitted tearing his trousers. He stated, “My bus was faulty and I was trying to fix it when the LASTMA man accosted me. He said I should park properly so as not to obstruct the flow of traffic and I parked. He wanted to arrest me and I resisted, so a struggle ensued. He slapped me and my shirt got torn in the process. I then engaged him in a struggle and while people were trying to separate us, his trousers got torn in the process. I am also a victim.”

Share Mother Slashes Daughter With Blade For Wasting N100

Angry residents of Ono-Odan Street, Ijanikin, Lagos, nearly lynched a mother, Kudirat Abiola, for cutting her nine-year-old daughter, Precious, with razor blade.
Kudirat made deep cuts on Precious’s back, left leg and right arm with the blade to “teach her a lesson.”
PUNCH Metro leant that Kudirat decided to punish her daughter after she wasted N100 given to her by her father on junk food.
A resident, who pleaded anonymity, told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that neighbours were furious after seeing the damage on Precious, adding that the incident was one of many brutalities perpetrated by Kudirat, a mother of two and a trader.
He said, “We wanted to take her to the police, but Precious pleaded for her. The residents nevertheless searched for Kudirat, but she could not be found.
Precious’ father, Dayo, is a customs officer.
A resident, Fasai Sunmonu, said Precious’ father was not always at home because of the nature of his work.
It was learnt that Precious, a primary six student of Marvellous Nursery and Primary School, Sele, Ijanikin, had on Monday shown her wounds to a friend, Mosaki Rachel.
Rachel said, “Precious told me that her father gave her N100 on Sunday and she spent it. But she did not know that her mother had cooked rice at home. When Precious’s mother found out, she beat her first, then used blade to cut her body. When I saw the wounds, I took her to my uncle, Fasai, who has hydrogen peroxide, for treatment.”
Precious, however,  told our correspondent that her mummy was just training her.
She said, “I like my mummy, and she likes me too. She is just training me. My father saw the wounds on Monday and got angry. I told him not to fight with my mummy. My father said he would take me to hospital for treatment. But since then I have not seen him.”
Kudirat’s friend, Ramat Sunmonu, a teacher, said Kudirat believed in corporal punishment.
She said, “She often beats her children including the younger one, Daniel, who is four years old. We were closer before, but because of her aggression towards her children, I don’t often visit her anymore.
“I was informed of the incident while coming back from church yesterday (Monday) evening. I ran to her house and when I saw the wounds, I was perplexed.
“I was told that she had run away from home since Monday morning because she was scared that her mother would do more harm. Precious came home at 9pm.”
Segun Abogun, who resides in a room next to the Abiolas, said, “We have learnt to stay out of her (Kudirat) way.”
Kudirat, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, however, said she inflicted the injury on her daughter because she was fond of coming home late.
She said, “I cut her because she often comes home late at about 11 pm. She doesn’t stay at home and she is naughty.
“I did not punish her because of N100, but because of her bad behaviour. I want her to show the mark to her grand children to tell them that disobedience does not pay.”

INJUSTICE! Boko Haram Gets Amnesty But MASSOB To Get Treason

“Besides the Jews, probably no other linguistic group has suffered so much persecution in history as the Igbo have been obliged to endure in Nigeria.”
—Nnamdi Azikiwe, 1964
Although the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War, which claimed the lives of more than one million Igbo ethnic group, ended more than four decades ago, it appears however, that our country has yet to learn any lesson from the devastating consequence of the war.
Recent events have shown that the ruling elite are poised to reopen the wounds of our ugly past thereby perpetuating the injustices that triggered one of the worst chapters in our nation’s history...
A probing of the first half of Nigeria’s post-independence history has shown that the intriguing political timeline that led to the 1966 pogrom and the eventual civil war was as a result of the power struggle among the ruling elite and regional power blocs that sought to selfishly dominate political power shortly after independence from British rule.

The anti-Igbo feelings and ethnic mistrust that had brewed in the pre-colonial period also came to a head in the period after independence. It tragically culminated in the pogrom of 1966 and has also been blamed for the outbreak of the war. Whether this is true or not (although recent developments in the polity seem to confirm latent anti-Igbo feelings), it did however blossom into a full-blown ethnic mistrust among Nigeria’s major ethnic groups. In the early 1960s, for example, a general and widespread Igbo paranoia became a recipe for tension which later engulfed the country and threatened its very existence.

The rest is history.

When the war ended, the Gowon administration which had prosecuted the war, sought to heal the wounds of the past by re-integrating the Igbo back into the mainstream of the Nigerian society through his Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction programme. The three pronged approach included restoring what the ethnic group had lost economically and politically. But this post-war attempt to right the wrong by Gowon had been variously criticised as half-hearted and not far-reaching enough. Before the war, the Igbo had been at the commanding heights of commerce in the country. The war took a heavy toll on them politically and economically. Many Igbo lost properties and positions in the civil service and other sectors of the economy. They have never really recovered from the aftermath.

Sadly, many years after the war ended, the cries of marginalisation of the Igbo ethnic group have become more stringent. The need to right the wrong has often dominated political discourse. In recent times, no event has highlighted the persecution the Igbo are still suffering than the plight of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra. The current travails of the group in the hands of the Nigerian government have prompted me to reflect on the injustice in our country. It has also re-opened the existence or otherwise of an underlying anti-Igbo feeling harboured by the Nigerian establishment.

The plight of the group in the hands of the Nigerian government has helped to boldly put the issue in the sun (although it was never much in the shade). Whether we want to admit it or not, the predicament of the MASSOB has also brought to the fore the ugly truth of tribal discrimination in our country. The treatment of the MASSOB has portrayed Nigeria as the allegorical setting of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, where all animals are equal but some are more equal than the others. It has also shown that although we have fought the civil war and touted the “the no-victor no-vanquished” slogan, we are not ready to correct the imbalances and injustice that led to the war.

No group personifies the injustice the Igbo are facing in the country than the MASSOB. The group and its members are currently being victimised, harassed and persecuted by agents of government as was the case in the past administrations. Since its existence, MASSOB has been the subject of state sponsored intimidation. It has continued under this government. The recent recommendation for trial of MASSOB members for treason reinforces the deep-seated anti-Igbo feeling and marginalisation that many have alluded to years after the civil war ended. What explanation could possibly justify the recommendation for the trial of the Ralph Uwazurike-led non-violent group, MASSOB, while other groups like the Boko Haram and MEND have been offered amnesty? At its inception, MASSOB concentrated on organising peaceful rallies and protests which culminated in hoisting Biafran flags at different locations in the South-East.

In recent years, this practice has been reserved mainly for celebrating key dates and events or in commemoration of dead members in the region. Besides, it had also embarked on protests to protest arrests and killings of its members. In 2012, the Human Rights Writers’ Association of Nigeria condemned the alleged killing of 16 members of MASSOB by security agencies in Anambra State. In February 2013, MASSOB claimed that several corpses found floating on the Ezu River on the boundary of Enugu and Anambra states were those of its members previously arrested by the police. It is also important to mention that the group’s peaceful campaign for self-determination is supported by all treaties, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which recognises the right of all peoples to self-government/determination, including the right to freely determine their political status.

This key aspect of the International Bill of Rights known as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights is a multilateral treaty adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. The global statute commits its parties including Nigeria among 160 others and the 74 signatories to respect the civil and political rights of individuals including the right to life; freedom of religion, freedom of assembly and speech and right to due process and fair trial. But MASSOB’s peaceful agitation for self-government has been met with the brutality of the Nigerian government. Interestingly, MASSOB, like any other ethno nationalist groups, emerged because of the glaring inequalities and imbalances in Nigeria. The group, for example, is not different from the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta or Odua People’s Congress and others.

These groups emerged in the last few years because the Nigerian state and its ruling elite have continued the marginalisation and structural imbalances that had led to political tension in the country. This they have done to further their own selfish ends. It is exactly for these reasons that groups such as the MEND, OPC, Boko Haram and MASSOB have proliferated in recent times. But why is this government treating MASSOB differently? Why is the government negotiating with a murderous group like Boko Haram while persecuting members of MASSOB with genuine ideological reasons to agitate? The government offers to grant amnesty to criminals that have taken thousands of lives — a group that plans to Islamise the country while genuine agitations are suppressed. Till date, MASSOB members and their families are still being harassed and killed with impunity in various parts of Eastern Nigeria. How can we have an equitable and just society when criminals masquerading as terrorists are offered amnesty by the government? Why has the government not offered to address the grievances of MASSOB? Have they once been offered the chance to meet with the government for discussions?

One intriguing development in this sad narrative is the complicity of the Igbo elite and their political class. They have turned a blind eye to the suffering of MASSOB. Ironically, Northern elders have defended the terrorist activities of the murderous Boko Haram by asking for amnesty to be granted it. South-South leaders also vigorously supported the call for amnesty for MEND in the heat of the Niger Delta struggle for resource control. That the pan-Igbo cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo has not spoken up against the harassment and ill-treatment of their kith and kin beats the imagination. The chieftains of the group, sadly, are contented with feeding off the crumbs from the Federal Government at the detriment of their people’s future and aspirations. It’s a shame.

I call on the Federal Government to toe the path of justice. As a matter of urgency, the trial and harassment of MASSOB members should stop. The Jonathan administration should address the structural imbalances in the country that have made ethnic militias inevitable. If it could in good conscience conceive of amnesty for a known terrorist group that has spurned the corporate existence of the country, whose activities have left blood, tears and sorrow at their trail, what is it doing with hanging a treason charge on a non-violent movement that poses no danger to lives of Nigerians? What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

Okada rider sentenced to death for robbery

A High court of Justice sitting at Isiokolo, Delta State has sentenced Etanuwoma Ogheneoro, a 25- year old commercial motorcycle, otherwise known as 'okada' rider,  to death for robbing a fellow okada rider.
Prosecution had told the court that the convicted armed robber, in connivance with others at large on the 30th of January 2010 at Kokori within the Isiokolo judicial division robbed a fellow okada man, Felix Itirikpe of an undisclosed amount and other valuables, thereby "thereby committed an offence punishable under section 6 (b) and 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Volume 14 laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004".

Prosecution  led by Mrs. C.E. Eronmwon, deputy Director Ministry of Justice called two witnesses to prove its case while the convict called no witness but testified for himself.

According to prosecution,  "the convict abandoned his own okada and  boarded another while pretending to a  passenger but half way into the journey at a lonely path he signaled to his gang members who came out from hideout and they disposed their victim of the said motorcycle".

He was however arrested with the aid of the local vigilante and later handed over to the police and was equally identified in court by the said victim during trial.

The trial judge, Justice A.O. Omamogho  in delivering judgment Tuesday stated that "prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt ingredients of the offence against the accused.

"I disbelieved the evidence of the accused while I hold that prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt ingredients of the offence of conspiracy against the accused the convict with two others now at large robbed their victim of a SkyGo motorcycle while armed".

Terry G Beats Up AY Dot Com!!!

Although the both parties mentioned do not enjoy the best of relationship for some years now, no one knew it would degenerate into a rofo rofo fight years after, until they finally engaged each other in a severe boxing match recently that finally earned AY a serious head but from ‘Terry the Ginja’ .
For the purpose of those who may not have understood the whole story, let us revert to the beginning of the matter.
In 2009, AY Dot come launched an attack on Terry G and warned him to stop performing his song, “Pass Me Your Love” in shows. The song which featured Terry and was also produced by him turned out to be a monster hit single later became the subject of a misunderstanding between the two parties over the years.
While Terry on his part claims he has the right of performing the song since it was a duet that featured him, AY Dot Come maintained it was never going to happen while he lives.

Meanwhile, AY on several occasions lamented of how Terry G went about collecting money on his behalf to perform the song without his consent.
Now from the story, you can see it was an age long animosity which finally turned out into a free for all fight, where blows were exchanged; several bottles broken, people injured, trying to separate the fight. Fast forward to what happened at Terry G’s Iju home on his birthday.
An eyewitness said, ‘AY came in the company of some friends as a sign of solidarity to celebrate with the ‘Intellectual Mad Man’ on his birthday and upon sighting him, Terry G Immediately threw caution to the wind and all the madness in him was let lose, as he punched AY severally and landed him an headbutt.
AY upon being rescued reached out for the next available weapon but was immediately intercepted by friends and colleagues. At this point the party was already thrown into a halt, while Terry G insisted that Ay disappears from his house before something worse happens. AY was immediately seen to the gate of the compound with bruises all over his body.
Neither Terry G nor AY was available to give their reaction on the story, as their both numbers were switched off as at the time of filing in this report.
