Ever wondered what happens in some Nigerian clubs, and why men don't mind spending their hard earned cash at a club?
Below is a secret video of a girls caught on camera shaking their yarsh in a Nigerian club to appeal to men around them.

The discovery of a baby-making factory in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, by officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, early this month, draws attention to the nagging problem of the chilling child trafficking rings in the country.

The existence of illegal baby markets, where infants are auctioned off to the highest bidder, is an evil that must be stopped.
It is estimated that about 27 million people are trafficked worldwide annually, generating $32 billion in illegal profits, which makes it the fastest-growing black market in the world. According to a 2011 UNESCO report, human trafficking is ranked the third most common crime in Nigeria – after financial fraud and drug trafficking. The United Nations says at least 10 children are illegally sold every day across the country and the traffickers are seldom caught.

The loss of societal values and the quest for materialism, which breed such depravity, should be a matter of concern to all men and women of good conscience. According to media reports, an orphanage located at Umuozuo, Osisioma Local Government Area, has metamorphosed into a camp where young girls are assembled and impregnated. It now houses 32 pregnant ladies, whose babies are sold upon delivery. The widely published photograph of the scene also showed two male accomplices.

A female teenage worker at the cruel fortress gave a crispy narrative of the baby trafficking ring thus: “Our madam is detained in Umuahia by men of the civil defence. She is innocent as she is only assisting childless couples from Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt by selling male and female babies at an agreed fee. Thus, she settles the mother of the baby and takes the balance of the money. Here, a male child is sold for N450, 000, while a female attracts N400, 000. A teenage mother is paid N100, 000 if she is delivered of a baby boy, while N80, 000 is the reward for a mother whose child is a female.” This is a clear indictment of our security agencies and other organs of state with powers of oversight on such institutions.

The proprietress of the camp, one Nnenna, is said to have a policeman as husband. If this is so, could it be him that had been providing her with security? According to the young lady familiar with the centre’s operations, visitors are not allowed in except clients who come for business or teenage girls who desire to sell their babies. But can such an illegal commune exist at Osisioma, a stronghold of the police, without their knowledge? The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Osisioma owes the state some explanations.

There is a possibility that not all the babies procured from the centre are adopted by childless couples; some may have ended up as victims of ritual murder. Otherwise, why would purported childless couples prefer an orphanage that sells babies to patronising many others brimming with children waiting for legitimate adoption? A media report indicated that one Onyekachi Ekelum, a father aged 26, sold his six-month-old boy for N350, 000 just to get the cash to procure a visa to Greece. Fortunately, he was not lucky as his wife aborted the beastly act by reporting the matter to the police and the innocent baby was rescued.

It seems the Aba-Umuahia area houses an established cartel for selling babies, which even involves medical doctors and nurses. In the same Aba, the police once raided an alleged “baby farm” where teenage mothers were forced to give up their newborns for sale to human traffickers in 2011. At least 32 pregnant girls were rescued and security agents arrested the proprietor. The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Usman Abubakar, has confirmed the boom in the illicit trade within the zone. He named a doctor at Amoji in Isiala Ngwa North and a nurse at Isiala Ngwa South as kingpins of the trade. Not a few times, medical personnel have entangled themselves in this dehumanising deal, which is clearly an abuse of trust by those whose duty it is to save life.

What the baby-making factory in Aba suggests is the inadequacy of existing legislative and policy frameworks to deal with the scourge. Section 4 of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons Act 2003, empowers it, “To coordinate all laws on trafficking in persons and related offences.” Part of NAPTIP’s modest success was the rescue of 4,810 females trafficked between 2004 and 2012 and another 1,750 males. Much needs to be done as about 45,000 Nigerian girls are still trafficked to Europe annually as séx workers.

One of the ways to stop the supply and hold traffickers accountable is to educate law enforcement agents and the public on how to identify trafficking victims and their captors. Another is to reduce the demand by making it difficult for people to adopt from the black market. The full weight of the law should come down hard on the baby-selling syndicates. Tougher laws targeting those who buy our children are necessary. The National Assembly must act now by strengthening the law to provide severe punishment for any culprit, as envisaged in a draft bill sent by the Federal Government to the parliament.

Experts say four children: Tochukwu, 14, Ifeanyichukwu, 11, Vivian and Marvelous, born by the same parents, Mr. and Mrs. Zebulun Onyia-Eburuo, may not live long because of a genetic condition inherited from their parents, known as muscular dystrophy.
Diagnosis reveal that the type, afflicting the children, is Duchane muscular dystrophy. Muscular dystrophy has several types, depending on the part of the body under siege.
The condition has no cure while research shows that sufferers die before they attain the age of 19 or 20 years. The very lucky ones may live up to 30 years.
Due to wrong diagnosis, few cases have officially been reported in Nigeria. However, the condition is a rare disease.
Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon, National Orthupaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, Dr. Babalola Olatunji, speaking on the prevalence rate of the disease, said, "We have to appreciate the fact that one out of 3,500 live births usually has it. But, remember it is more commom for male population. We’re talking about one out of 3,500 male birth. For female-births, you multiply that by two, that’s about one in 7,000 live births.
"These are the characteristics: by five years, it starts manifesting, ten years later they’re found on wheelchairs. By 30 years, most of them are gone, that’s Duchane muscular dystrophy. It is more severe.
"Muscular dystrophy is a group of muscle diseases that weaken the musculoskeletal system and hamper locomotion. Muscular dystrophies are characterized by progressive skeletal muscle weakness, defects in muscle proteins, and the death of muscle cells and tissues.
"The signs and symptoms are progressive muscular wasting, poor balance, drooping eyelids, atrophy, scoliosis (curvature of the spine and the back), inability to walk, frequent falls, waddling gait, calf deformation, limited range of movement, respiratory difficulty, joint contractures."
According to experts, there is no known cure for muscular dystrophy.
Narrating the story of his life, Onyia-Eburuo who is a painter by profession, told Daily Sun how his marriage produced five children, four males and a female. Of these, only the eldest, Prince enjoys good health. “We got married in 1992. In 1993, we had our first child, a boy, who is now 19. The youngest among them is eight years. With the exception of the oldest, all my four children are suffering from muscular dystrophy. Recalling how the children’s ill-health started, he said they were born perfectly normal and were attending schools when all of a sudden, the condition began to manifest in his second son, Tochukwu in 2006.
"So we started treating him, carrying him up and down; here and there, from one hospital to another without getting any result. After sometime, we started noticing the problem in the other children. And began taking them to hospitals. We went to Isolo General Hospital,Lagos, then, to National Orthopaedic Hospital,Igbobi,Lagos and Lagos University Teaching Hospital(LUTH) without getting any solution because the disease has no cure.
"We consulted some religious and spiritual homes for help. We also tried alternative therapy. At some point, we started going to churches and so on. Till date, there was no solution. Instead, their conditions just got worse, deteriorating by the minute."
He continued: “We have also tried the native way. When tribulations like this come, no parent would just sit, fold his hands and watch his child die just like that. Not even where it affects just a child, let alone my case, it is not just one, not even two, nor three, but, four of my children being diagnosed of this same ailment. Somebody was treating them with herbs.Initially, he thought it was stroke. So he was giving them herbal treatment meant for stroke. But he later told us it was not stroke and stopped the treatment."
The traumatised father said, "Initially, I did not understand what they said it is. According to the doctors and surgeons, they called it Duchane muscular dystrophy and said the thing is destroying their muscles. If you see them now, they cannot lift their hands and legs. So, it has become practically impossible for any four of them to lift himself or herself up. So they just sit or lie at a spot."
Onyia-Eburuo said his children’s failing health has at the moment, stalled their education. "As their muscles get eaten up by this disorder, within a short time, they are not able to do anything by themselves because they can’t even lift an arm let alone their bodies. So, they have all stopped going to school. The four of them are at home, always sitting or just lying down at a place.
"Initially, we were forcing them to go to school. But as their conditions got worse that they could not get up by themselves, we had to let them be. This is because we have to carry them to the toilet to urinate or defaecate whenever any of them wants to. And the terrible thing about it all is that you have to be there to hold them so they won’t fall off the water closet. We brush their teeth, bathe and feed them, put on their clothes, even fetch water and help them drink the water.
He explained that despite all hospital visitations, the children have not received any form of treatment. Reason is that there is no known cure for Duchene muscular dystrophy.
"Infact, there has never been any good treatment since 2006 we first noticed this problem in Tochukwu. What we have been asked to do is run one test or the other. No form of drug whatsoever has been prescribed for them. I just can’t understand. It’s been test, test and tests. We go for one, they suggest another and nothing is done. When the doctors find out they cannot be of any help to us, they refer us to another hospital. The hospital will again, recommend other tests which we also went for. Yet, the story remains the same.
"It was in our search for a hospital, where perhaps, they can even give us something to straighten their bodies that we then went to private hospital which was our last point of call. This was after we’d gone to Isolo General Hospital, then Igbobi and LUTH and nothing came out of these visits. At Igbobi, sometimes, they asked them to do exercise which was absolutely difficult for them to do. That was the only therapy they were giving to them. No drug has ever been administered to them.
Asked if any form of corrective surgery has been recommended, he said none has been suggested, adding that, "if any hospital exists anywhere in Nigeria or overseas, that is capable of providing cure for my children, I have no idea."
Speaking on family history, Onyia-Eburue dismissed any trace of the disease in both families joined by marriage. His words: "There’s no history of such in my family. And none in my wife’s family, the sickness does not run in the two families."
Available research indicates that affected victims die by their 19th or 20th birthday or before they turn 30.
Naturally, this couple presently are overwhelmed by the thought of losing four of their children. Eburuo’s worries are not all about his children’s health challenges. He narrated that the suggestions proffered by people around him left him more worried.
"The terrible state my children are in now has scared away all our friends and relatives. Even as science has identified what their problem is, many people find it difficult to accept why or how the four of them could be affected. And because of the plight my wife and I have been going through and the untold difficulty we have been through, a lot of them have suggested that we feed then with poison and let them go."
According to him, his father and mother died at age 90 and 133 years respectively. "The same also applies to my uncles. They all died in good old ages. As for my wife, her mother is still living but her father is late. He also died at a very ripe age of 90 or 90 plus. We never experienced something like this. It is completely strange."
Since it is established that children affected by this condition usually die before age 20, you then begin to wonder aloud and feel the pulse of Mr. and Mrs. Onyia-Eburuo, if a time comes, and death begins to pick, one after another, these four precious lives.
The helpless father said, "When that happens," even though he shivers at the mere thought of it, "I will only take solace in the fact that God’s Will reigns supreme.
"I don’t have any choice but to accept it as my fate. I don’t have any option. I can’t fight God. This is why we have come to call on the medical world, physicians and researchers to rally to our aid and see what could be done to avert this imminent terror. Because it’s going to be terrifying and heart-rending for any couple to watch helplessly and their four children die just like that."

why i love naija men

Vimbai Mutinhiri, born and raised in Zimbabwe, a graduate of politics, philosophy and economics, was one of the housemates on the 6th edition of the Big Brother Africa game-show in 2011, which had Karen Igho as winner. Recently, the pretty entertainer copped a job as co-host of the 1st edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, alongside IK Osakioduwa, in Lagos, Nigeria.
In this interview she expressed her thoughts about Nigeria and a couple of projects to be expected from her soon.

Jim Iyke’s Fiancee Keturah Hamilton Claims His Reality Show Is Fake

For a while now I have been asking why Jim Iyke has been popping up everywhere with Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari, when he has a fiancee Keturah who even appears on his “reality” show exhibiting jealous & ratchet behavior by getting into a public fight with the actor.
Now it seems we finally have answers on the Jim Iyke/Keturah Hamilton/Nadia Buari love triangle.
They say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned & Keturah Hamilton is one scorned woman. In a press release sent to me this morning. Keturah Hamilton flips the script on Jim Iyke & reveals some not so nice things about him. Here is a summary:

1) Keturah Hamilton & Jim Iyke are officially no longer together, because she couldn’t take any more of his bad boy behaviour (apparently he cheated on her a lot!)

2) The Jim Iyke reality show which premiered April 17 on Africa Magic is fake, and the scene where she was seen shouting & dragging Jim Iyke for flirting with other ladies (Watch Below If You Miss It), was “acted out” for drama purposes. Which means none of that was real.

3) She will be giving her own press conference on April 29th in New York, so if you are in the area you might want to pop by, I believe this woman has some more stuff to reveal about Jim that he would rather stayed secret.

Man Kills Woman and 8 Months Old Child After Learning the Kid Was Not His

This is another Horrific Story! This terrible double murder which also lead to the murderer getting killed happened in the city of Maiquinique, state of Bahia, Brazil. Man found out that his wife was a wh*re and the kid she spawned while she was with him was not his.

Feeling completely destroyed by infidelity and lies, the man returned home and beat his wife to death. When he was done with her, he also took his rage on the bastard son.

36 year old nicknamed “Dai” reportedly beat the head of 19 year old Lima against the bathroom floor until she was dead. 8 months old Erick de Oliveira Lima was reportedly also killed by being repeatedly thrown against the floor. After the deed, the double murderer tried to commit suicide by ingesting poison known as “BB”.

Unfortunately, the poison did not deliver anticipated results and only made the murderer sick. Odair stumbled out of the residence and was helped by a Good Samaritan who took him to a hospital. Not trying to hide who he was, Odair told the nurse right away that he had just killed his ex-wife and her son and that they were dead in the bathroom of her house.

The news of the double murder quickly spread through the community and enraged citizen decided to take justice into their own hands. They broke into the hospital, dragged the half dead man out and beat and kicked and stoned him like mad. Military police tried to intervene with lynching but by the time they got to the crime scene, the victim was already dead.

Women Fighting After A Bad Night Out

“If Madrid Beat Dortmund And Qualify, I Will Let My Girlfriend With Them!

Mario Balotelli might have condemned himself to the doghouse with girlfriend Fanny Neguesha after he reportedly made a bizarre comment about the Belgian model ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund. photoThe former Manchester City striker is apparently so confident that Dortmund will qualify for the Champions League final, he is claimed to have said that he would allow the Spanish side’s squad to sleep with his girlfriend if they managed to upset the odds and pip the Germans to Wembley. photoIn Spanish newspapers AS and Marca, the Italy international was quoted as saying: ‘If Real Madrid come back in Champions League, I’ll let my girlfriend sleep with them!’ Dortmund ran Real off the park a week ago at the Westfalenstadion, with Robert Lewandowski, Mario Gotze and Marco Reus tearing a flimsy-looking defence apart.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich target Lewandowski netted all four goals in the 4-1 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men. Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored Real’s only goal of the night, missed the Madrid derby clash against Atletico at the weekend and remains a fitness doubt for Tuesday’s encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu. photo Meanwhile, Balotelli, apart from making controversial comments about his girlfriend, is lighting up the Serie A since leaving Manchester for AC Milan. The 22-year-old has scored 10 times since leaving the Premier League, including a contentious penalty in last night’s victory over Catania. Balotelli has previously spoken about his blossoming relationship with Neguesha. In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, the striker said his girlfriend was the ‘first woman I feel comfortable with’.

Nollywood Star, Odun Adekola Beats, Detains Students In Ogun Over Generator

According to information gathered from good authorities, Popular Yoruba actor and Glo brand ambassador, Odunlade Adekola, as he acted in ‘Sunday Dagboru’, recently threw caution into the air when he and his thugs allegedly beat up and eventually detained some students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State.

We scooped that the incident, which happened on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at about 8pm, around Adigbe area of the city, psychologically destroyed the affected students who were before then preparing for their exams on Monday.

Investigation by Naijapals.com indicates that not only four students were mercilessly beaten by the popular actor, a civil defence officer was also pounced on by Odun and his thugs who he ordered to ruthlessly deal with. He also ordered the beating of the students for daring to talk when he was talking.

Trouble reportedly started on Sunday when the students protested that Odun and his crew; Fausat Balogun, Ebun Oloyede known as Olaiya Igwe and some others, to put-off a ‘noisy’ generator because it was disturbing their reading for an exam the next day.

Odun then reportedly told the students, whose building was next to where Odun and his crew were using for a movie shoot, to dare talk again and get a bitter reward for that. He also allegedly threatened to deal with anyone who violates his order.

Not intimidated by Odun’s order, the students insisted the generator must be put-off because it was constituting a nuisance to them. But rather than be a gentleman, Odun allegedly ordered his thugs to beat life out of the ‘defiant’ students.

Even a civil defence officer, who reportedly tried to restore peace, was not left out of Odun’s ‘largesse’ as he was beaten black and blue by Odun.

At about 10pm on Sunday, some police from Adigbe Police Station allegedly arrested the students after Odun had begged them to teach the students a lesson for dis-obeying the ‘orders of a popular movie star’.

They were later released after landlords association of the area intervened.

As we now hear, Odun and the students have been summoned for a meeting by the landlords body on Saturday.

Effort by Naijapals.com to get Odun to react to the allegations were frustrated by him as he didn’t pick our calls or reply to our text message sent to him on the matter.

Some of the students in the area confirmed the story to Naijapals.com. They said it was not the first time Odun was involving in such a shameful act.

“He keeps saying none of us can attain the heights he has reached,” one of the aggrieved students told Naijapals.com.

Our investigation is still ongoing as we promise to bring report of the meeting with the landlords

Juju Man Caught Trying To Pack The Remains Of Accident Victims

On Thursday a ghastly motor accident occurred along Owerri, Port Harcourt express road after the Army Barracks in Obinze, just a few meters after the entrance of Arab Contractors Nig Ltd, involving a petrol tanker and a bus carrying full load of passengers.
Three passengers died on the spot including the driver, two died later at the hospital. As if that was not enough, on Friday a Sienna coming from Owerri and heading to Imo state Polytechnic Ohaji somersaulted severally on the same spot. The car was seriously damaged but thankfully the three occupants came out alive with praises to God.

Today Tuesday, a man was caught on that same spot with charms doing what was best known to him in a language most people didn’t understand. He was promptly surrounded by the youths of Ohaji. The man was taken to the Eze who handed him over to the police.

Before this, the man who could only speaks hausa language mentioned that he had links in the community and named a man well known to the youths. The youths swung into action and went in search of the man and found him hiding in the ceiling of his house.

They beat him up, but as soon as he had a little chance, he escaped into a nearby bushes. The hausa speaking juju man also mentioned that he had customers that visited him at night, dressed in suits and were carrying a briefcase.

Baby-mama’ phenomenon is fast becoming an acceptable trend in Nigeria. With more women choosing to be ‘independent’, the trend is spreading like wildfire amongst celebrity women who seem to be (partially) cool with the status. 2face makes the list twice.

Beginning with the most recent baby-mama, Anita, she is the only girl that makes Paul of the group, Psquare ‘cry and laugh at the same time’. Until recently, the lovebirds were able to keep their relationship concealed from the public eye. The longtime girlfriend of Paul who is currently studying at the University of Dundee, Scotland, recently delivered their first child, Andre in the US and close sources say the couple may soon be walking down the aisle.

                  Lola Omotayo and Peter Okoye
The fact that they now have two kids (Cameron and Aliona) between them has not pushed Lola Omotayo up from baby-mama to wifey status. Lola who is older than Peter seems not to be bothered by the several questions and talks about marriage as she has often insisted that ‘There is so much that completes a woman and marriage is not it.’ In a subtle effort to secure her man, Lola in recent times consciously makes sure she is always with her man whenever he goes to events.

                 Mimi Omoregbe and Terry G
Terry G and Mimi have been dating for quite a while and November last year, they welcomed their first child. The UK-based Mimi and the ‘Akpo Master’ were also rumoured to have secretly tied the knot, although they both denied the reports. Mimi, on her own part, is doing everything possible to retain her status and position in the ‘House of Ginger’.
         Barbara and Timaya
Timaya and Barbara set off their romance in 2010 right after his controversial relationship with actress Empress Njamah. Sources say the ‘Egberipapa 1 of Bayelsa’ spoils Barbara with all the good things of life. For giving birth to their daughter, Emmanuella, Barbara got a brand new GL 450 Benz as a gift. Timaya may have truly found love in Barbara, but he doesn’t seem to be willing to take their relationship to the next level just yet as he once stated in an interview that he is not yet ready for marriage.
  Adebola and Olowoporoku (May D)
Former protégé of Psquare, Akinmayokun Awodumila popularly known as May D is now enjoying the status of fatherhood thanks to his longtime girlfriend, Adebola. A rising model, Adebola and May D have been together for about four years and she even has a tattoo of May D’s name on her back to show for it.
Close sources tell us May D rented an apartment in Magodo for Adebola but doesn’t live with her, he stays in another Magodo residence, maybe because he wants to accommodate his many female visitors one of which has allegedly been SoundCity VJ Moet Abebe.
Bimbo Babatunde and Ice Prince Zamani
Bimbo was introduced to the world in 2012 after she delivered a baby boy for Chocolate City rapper, Ice Prince Zamani in March 2012. After several denials by the rapper, the child is now being loved and sometimes flaunted by the rapper. Since reports say that both Ice Prince and Bimbo were never officially dating when ‘it’ happened, it is certain that only the welfare of the baby links them together since the Choc Boi is now busy enjoying high profile celebrity relationships.
Pero Adeniyi and 2face Idibia
Probably the most disappointing love story ever, Pero Adeniyi one of the baby mamas of 2face Idibia was sidestepped despite having the most children for the celebrated singer. For some reason, Pero kept having kids for the music icon even when marriage was not around the corner. She may not have gotten a ring out of the relationship, at least she has 3kids to show for it.

Actress, Stella Damasus Secretly Married

The latest gist making round is that Nollywood actress Stella Damasus has married fellow actress Doris Simeon’s ex-husband, Daniel Ademinokan secretly.
According to sources, Daniel Ademinokan and Stella relocated to Abuja a couple of months back in order to strengthen their relationships.
As we speak, the two have married each other in a secret wedding that took place outside of the country.
The lovers who now have several business investments together are living a low-key life in the Federal capital territory.
It all started as a joke when the Nollywood movie producer started a business deal with the single mother of one.
Though they initially denied having an affair, it all came in the open during the launch of their Abuja-based boutique code 55.

Previously, he was married to Doris Simeon and they have a daughter together

Teachers rampage against reforms in Guerrero state, Mexico

Teachers rampage against reforms in Guerrero state, Mexico

Protesting teachers started fires and attacked buildings with pickaxes

Teachers incensed by sweeping education reforms have attacked the buildings of political parties in Mexico's south-western Guerrero state.
For several hours, masked protesters started fires and attacked the offices with pickaxes and sticks, spraying slogans on the walls.
The state governor has called for support from the federal government.
The reforms impose centralised teacher assessment and seek to end corrupt practices in the education system.
Those practices include the buying and selling of teaching positions.
But unions say the reforms could lead to big lay-offs, and critics also suggest they may be paving the way for the privatisation of Mexico's education system.
Protesting teachers burnt pictures of the Mexican president
Wednesday's protests came a day after the Guerrero state legislature refused to amend the educational bill, which includes constitutional changes which must be passed by each state.
Police stood by during Wednesday's rampage in the state capital, Chilpancingo - though hundreds are guarding the state legislature.
Dozens of protesters targeted the local headquarters of the governing party, the PRI, as well as the offices of the opposition PAN and PRD, which have supported the reforms.
'Traitors'
A senator's office and state education department building were also attacked by the demonstrators, who broke windows and tossed computer equipment, desks and chairs out of the windows.
They burned papers inside the offices, some of which still had frightened workers inside when the masked men broke in, and sprayed slogans including "traitors of the people" on the walls.
The teachers are part of the country's smaller, more radical union, the National Co-ordinator of Education Workers.
Union spokesman Minervo Moran said the violent protests were "a reaction to the aggressive policies that are being imposed by the reforms and that's why there was this sort of action against the parties" that voted against the protesters' proposals.
But state Governor Angel Aguirre called for federal back-up and the PRI chairman Cesar Camacho pledged to investigate the unrest.
"We need to avoid the law of the jungle imposing itself, chaos and the breakdown of public order," Mr Camacho was quoted as saying.
Recently formed civilian self-defence groups are thought to have joined the demonstrators wreaking havoc on Wednesday, reports the BBC's Will Grant in Mexico City.
President Enrique Pena Nieto signed the education law in February, but parliamentarians need to draw up separate legislation to implement it.

Frantic search for survivors after Dhaka building collapse

Frantic search for survivors after Dhaka building collapse

A man trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building in Dhaka

A search for survivors is continuing at a building which collapsed in a suburb of the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, killing at least 200 people.
Rescue workers are working with volunteers to free survivors still believed to be trapped inside.
Tens of thousands of weeping family members are gathered at the site.
Police said the factory owners had ignored warnings not to allow their workers into the building after cracks were noticed on Tuesday.
The factory owners are now said to have gone into hiding. Police say that cases have been filed against the building owner and the owners of the factories for causing unlawful death.
The exact number of those trapped is not clear, but accounts from survivors and eyewitnesses suggest there may be hundreds still unaccounted for.
The disaster has prompted questions over Bangladesh's chronically poor safety standards.
Bangladesh has one of the largest garment industries in the world, providing cheap clothing for major Western retailers which benefit from its widespread low-cost labour.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced a national day of mourning on Thursday in memory of the victims.
Local media reported thousands of garment workers in other areas of Dhaka had taken to the streets and blocked roads to protest at the deaths of the workers in Savar.
'Like a pancake'
Some 2,000 people were in the Rana Plaza building in Savar, some 30km (20 miles) outside Dhaka, when it collapsed suddenly on Wednesday morning.
Firefighters and soldiers joined volunteers in the effort to locate survivors in the mangled wreckage of concrete and steel.
Rescue workers and volunteers have been using heavy machinery and their bare hands to free survivors.
Trapped workers can be heard inside the rubble, screaming for help. Food and water is being passed to survivors through gaps in the the rubble.
Lengths of textile that were earlier being cut into garments - many destined for Western consumers - were now being used as makeshift slides to evacuate survivors and corpses.
Mosammat Khursida told the Associated Press (AP) news agency she was looking for her husband.
"He came to work in the morning. I can't find him," she said. "I don't know where he is. He does not pick up his phone."
Lines of relatives filed by numbered bodies of victims, looking for their family members.
"Save us brother. I beg you brother. I want to live... It's so painful here ... I have two little children," Mohammad Altab, a garment worker trapped in the building told rescuers, according to AP.
Only the ground floor of the building remained intact, officials said.
"The whole building collapsed like a pancake within minutes. Most workers did not have any chance to escape," national fire department chief Ahmed Ali told AFP news agency.
Local hospitals were overwhelmed with the arrival of more than 1,000 injured people.
Bangladeshi factory worker: "In one minute everything collapsed"
Speaking at the scene, Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir said the building had violated construction codes and "the culprits would be punished".
There are reports that the building owner had illegally added three extra stories to the building.
'Catch-22'
In November, a fire at a garment factory in the Dhaka suburb of Tazreen drew international attention to working conditions in Bangladesh's textile industry.
Primark, a clothes retailer with a large presence in Britain, confirmed that one of its suppliers was on the second floor of the Rana Plaza.
It said it was "shocked and deeply saddened by the appalling incident" and that it would work with other retailers to review standards.
Discount giant Wal-Mart - which was found to be sourcing products from the Tazreen factory - said it was still trying to establish whether its goods were being produced at the Rana Plaza.
"We remain committed and are actively engaged in promoting stronger safety measures, and that work continues,'' said Wal-Mart spokesman Kevin Gardner.
A company called New Wave, with two factories in the building, supplies firms from around Europe, the US and Canada.

Pan Am Flight 103 in secret return to Scotland

A CONVOY of six lorries secretly returned the Lockerbie jet to Scots soil — a quarter of a century after Pan Am

Flight 103 was blown up in an atrocity never to be forgotten.

The remains of the plane — which exploded in 1988 killing 270 people — were taken to an unknown secure location a

few miles from the Dumfriesshire town.

The fuselage of the Boeing 747, painstakingly reconstructed in the aftermath of the terror attack, is back to aid fresh

efforts to nail the accomplices of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi — the only person convicted over the blast.

It had previously been housed at an air accident investigation hangar in the south of England for almost 25 years.

Relatives of the victims were told of the move last week as the crucial central section of the plane was transported 350

miles north from Farnborough, Hants.

A source said: “The wreckage is clearly a vital piece of evidence for the Crown Office and police, should their

investigations into suspects in Libya lead to more charges.

Convicted ... Abdelbaset al-Megrahi
“The fuselage had been taken apart again before being transported, but it could be put back together if necessary as all

the pieces are catalogued in detail.

“There have been questions over who should be storing the plane for the past decade.

“The premises where it was kept was being refurbished and it was felt most sensible to bring it back to Scotland. We

have entered a new phase in the investigation after the collapse of Colonel Gaddafi’s regime, so it is important the

wreckage is on hand in Scotland, meaning investigators have easy access.”

Former Libyan intelligence officer Megrahi died aged 60 of prostate cancer nearly three years after he was released by

the Scottish Government on compassionate grounds. He is the only person convicted of Britain’s most deadly terror

attack.

But the Crown Office believe others must have been involved.

And the country’s top lawman, Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland, has had a team of cops and lawyers on the case since

despot Gaddafi was overthrown and killed in 2011. In February a Crown Office and police delegation teamed up with the

FBI to meet Libyan officials — but have so far failed to gain access to key suspects.
Reconstruction ... Pan Am Flight 103’s fuselage rebuilt by experts
Those said to be in the frame include Megrahi’s co-accused, Al-Amin Khalifa Fhimah, who was cleared in the Camp

Zeist trial at the Netherlands in 2001.

It has also been claimed that Megrahi’s spy boss Abdullah Senussi — Gaddafi’s brother-in-law — is a suspect.

Last night the Crown Office confirmed: “Wreckage of Pan Am 103, the plane destroyed in the Lockerbie bombing, has

been returned to Scotland.

“Parts of the fuselage retrieved from the scene of the 1988 terrorist atrocity were used to reconstruct the fuselage of Pan

Am 103 for evidential purposes.

“The wreckage was previously stored at the Air Accident Investigation Branch in Farnborough for 24 years.

“Due to the refurbishment of a hangar, the reconstruction was dismantled and removed. It will now be stored at a secure

location in the Dumfries area. The families have been advised of these recent developments.”

The decision to move the jet — called Clipper Maid of the Seas — comes after years of wrangling over where to keep it.

The explosion at 31,000ft on December 21, 1988, caused debris to be scattered over a massive 845 square miles.
