Sinkhole Opens Up And Completely Swallows Family Car In The Street

The homeowners parked the VW Lupo outside their bungalow only to find it had vanished down a ditch the following morning.
Firefighters believe the 30ft deep and 15ft wide crater appeared because of a weakness in the ground caused by clay mining in the region.
The car disappeared into the ditch at Ash, Bucks. Fire service watch manager Stuart Grosse said: “A hole has opened up outside of the property in the driveway where the family leave their car.
“They parked it there last night and woke up to find it covered in mud at the bottom of this hole.
“We get few calls of this nature, mainly in the south of the county. Historically, holes have appeared in the area due to clay mining.”
The incident is being investigated by Wycombe district council’s building control department.
No doubt neighbours are worried about their motors after seeing this one vanish down a chasm.
Now the owners have ditched the VW, maybe they’ll get a Vaux-hole.
